Stormwater Testing

On-site stormwater testing and soil evaluations.

Stormwater Testing Backed by Field Data & Soil Science

At Penn’s Trail Environmental, we conduct precise stormwater testing using our own equipment and field experts. Using double-ring infiltrometers, we perform accurate infiltration testing and detailed soil evaluations. Our certified soil scientists analyze site conditions, identify any limiting zones, and prepare reports that meet regulatory standards. Whether for stormwater BMPs or land development approvals, we deliver reliable data you can build on.

Stormwater Testing Process

Infiltration Testing

We begin by excavating test pits using our in-house backhoe, giving us full control over scheduling and site access. Once the pit is prepared, we conduct infiltration testing using double-ring infiltrometers, which allow us to accurately measure how quickly water is absorbed into the soil. This data is essential for determining whether the site can support stormwater BMPs like infiltration basins or rain gardens.

Soil Classification

Our certified soil scientists examine the exposed soil profile during testing. They document soil horizons, textures, structures, and any limiting zones that may affect water movement or compliance with local regulations. This step ensures that the infiltration data is interpreted in context—and that your stormwater design is based on a clear understanding of site-specific conditions.

Regulatory-Ready Reporting

Once testing and analysis are complete, we compile the results into a detailed report suitable for municipal review or engineering submittals. Each report includes infiltration rates, soil descriptions, and any limitations or recommendations, all organized to meet the formatting and content expectations of regulatory bodies in Pennsylvania and Maryland.
